What’s the Dyson Airwrap?
The original Dyson Airwrap was designed specifically to dry and style long, straight hair, but its more recent version (which came out in 2022) was updated to suit us wavy-, curly-, and coily-haired people too. It’s meant to be used on wet/damp hair as both a dryer and a styler. What makes the Airwrap different is that it heats with warm air (instead of burning your hair with hot metal or ceramic plates, as traditional tools do). It’s a far gentler way to style your hair—a huge plus with damaged hair like mine.
What are the Airwrap’s attachments?
The multistyler set that I bought comes with six attachments, which are crucial in transforming it into different tools:
Dryer+Flyaway smoother: A pre-styling dryer attachment that cuts back on frizz at your roots, employing something called the Coanda effect
Firm smoothing brush: A drying brush that smooths coarser hair
Soft smoothing brush: A drying brush that gently smooths fine hair
Round volumizing brush: Creates volume and shape as you wrap hair around it and twist it out
1.2-inch curling barrel: For tighter curls
1.6-inch curling barrel: For looser curls
How I use the Dyson Airwrap
A little about me: I have fine, wavy, dry hair. Figuring out how to style it has always been a chore, resulting in a frizzy mess. I’d seen the Dyson on TikTok and heard about it from other shopping editors but hadn’t tried it for myself until a couple of years ago. Worth noting: I have a version of the Dyson that includes almost all of its attachments (save a diffuser attachment for curly hair, which I bought separately). The version that is on sale for Amazon Prime Day is more simplified—it has three attachments: the Dryer+Flyaway smoothing dryer, the 1.2-inch Airwrap barrel, and the volumizing brush.
The attachments I used in this video: The firm smoothing brush and the 1.6-inch barrel.
